1. The Person of the Holy Spirit

There is but one living and true God who exists in three persons: God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

2. The person and ministry of the Holy Spirit in the life of the disciples of Jesus

Our Lord spoke to his disciples in the upper room on the night before he was placed on the cross for the sins of humanity. "Now I am going to him who sent me, yet none of you asks me, 'Where are you going?' 6Because I have said these things, you are filled with grief. 7But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: 9in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; 10in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; 11and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.

12"I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 6But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. 15All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you. (NIV) John 16:5-15

The Holy Spirit is also involved in our salvation (Titus 3:5), makes Himself at home in our new lives (1 Cor. 6.19), places us into the mystical body of Christ once we invited Jesus to become our personal Lord and Savior (1 Cor. 12:13), empowers us to live a life pleasing to God, (Acts 1:8) and then He becomes the seal that guarantees our salvation (Eph. 1:13) which in turn means that we will never be blotted out of the Book of Life.

The Church of Sardis -- "Wake Up to Spiritual Realities!"
Revelation 3:1-6
TO:
FROM:
1...the angel of the church in Sardis write...
These are the words him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars.
1. A Word of Correction: I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. 2Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your deeds complete in the sight of my God.
2. A Word of Exhortation: 3Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; obey it, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know what time I will come to you.
3. A Word of Encouragement: 4Yet you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes. They will walk with me, dressed in white, for they are worthy.
4. A Promise: 5He who overcomes will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out his name from the book of life, but will acknowledge his name before my Father and his angels. 6He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. (NIV)

Some Questions to Consider

1. Do you think that Fellowship Bible Church is currently living off its past reputation of being a church that is alive but in reality it is now dying or dead? Explain your part in its current life or death.
2. Do you understand the part the person of the Holy Spirit has in keeping you and the church alive? Give an example.
3. When other christians look at you do they see any spots on your white clothes? What do you think those spots represent?
4. Do you believe that your name is written in the book of life? On what evidence do you base your answer?
