His Unusual Birth (Luke 1:13)
The angel said to him: "Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to give him the name John.

His Unique Lifestyle (Matthew 3:4)
John's clothes were made of camel's hair, and he had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.

His Amazing Ministry (Luke 3:1-4)
. . . the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the desert. He went into all the country around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. As is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: "A voice of one calling in the desert, `Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.

His Contact with Jesus (Matt 3:15; John 1:29)
(at his baptism) Jesus replied, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness."
(6 weeks later) John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

His Moment of Crisis (Luke 7:18-19)
John's disciples told him about all these things. Calling two of them, he sent them to the Lord to ask, "Are you the one who was to come, or should we expect someone else?"

His Ongoing Legacy (Luke 7:28)
I tell you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he."
